Morocco embodies a mixture of passionate past and practical present; the impressive desert mixed with green gardens, deep silence with the vibrating sound of the many-coloured Arab-markets which seem to belong to another epoch and where the price of the offered products only depends on the buyer's ability to bargain with the seller; luxury mingles with plainness, and beaches with mountains.

Traditionalism and refinement are typical characteristics of the Islamic architecture;
circumstances which bring ist closer to the art of "Al Andalus" than to the one of Argelia and Tunisia.

One of Morocco's traditional textiles is the tapestry, which is characterized by the predominance of geometrical themes and flowered decorations. Pottery workshops are also existing for a long time in Morocco.

The traditionla Moroccan craftmanship is specialized in cooper work ( techniques of chase work and engraving) as well as in mosaik-labours.

TANGER

Located in the western part of a bay protected by the height of the Espartel Cape and dominated by the Yaballa Mountains, the city is isolated from the edge of Ceuta by the extremity of the calcareous mountain range of the reef; it communicates with Tetuán and the Mediterranean Sea by a depression.

This mythical city, a symbol for adventure and liberty, was the meeting point for trading and making contraband, refuge of capitals and important tourist centre, where all the cosmopolitan society of the 50s met.

The old city, situated in the slope of a small mountain, presents a vivid contrast to the luxurious hotels of the modern society which are built all along
the beach.
